I LIKE to think I am not a particularly paranoid person.
Like most of us, I do not routinely indulge conspiracy theories. I do not read Lyndon LaRouche, check what the Bilderberg Group is doing, or pay attention to Patricia McKenna.
But when you examine the behaviour of the Irish political elite in recent weeks, and their European counterparts, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that for once a genuine, proper conspiracy actually is afoot. If I am right, it strikes at the very heart of our democracy.
