Fury as bridge is demolished.

CAMPAIGNING residents pleaded with council chiefs this week: Give us back our bridge.

Over 400 people have signed a petition urging East Dunbartonshire Council to replace the footbridge which provided a route from Waverley Crescent, in Hillhead, to Kirkintilloch town centre for over half-a-century.

The bridge was demolished earlier this month due to safety fears, but furious residents claim there was no consultation and a replacement footpath is not fit for purpose.

Nancy McParland said: "When I phoned the council's planning department I was told the demolition must be a rumour. The next day, the bridge was gone.
