Baseball draft pick Phil Pohl of Cooperstown was named Class C player of the year for the second straight season as the New York State Sportswriters Association released its all-state teams this month.
Pohl, a catcher who batted .385 this season, was drafted in the 44th round by Tampa Bay in this spring's Major League Baseball amateur draft. The two-time All-CNY first-team pick will play at Clemson next season.
All-CNY pitcher of the year Matt Croglio of Christian Brothers Academy was a first-team pick in Class B. Other first-team selections from Section III were Alex Ferenti of Whitesboro (Class A), Ed Gray of Pulaski (Class C) ...
