A fire that did $200,000 damage to a Eugene condominium unit on Wednesday night was started when flames from an outdoor barbecue ran up and under the eaves of the building, Eugene fire authorities said.

The Eugene Fire Department responded to a call at 996 Lincoln St. at 6:47 p.m.

"The gentleman had just lit his barbecue and was preparing to cook and went back inside to prepare some food," said Lt. Paul Highfill, one of the first firefighters to respond. "He turned back around and saw a large amount of fire."
