Only a few people have had their names on bottles of great American whiskey. Jack Daniel is one. Jim Beam is another.
Jimmy Russell's name -- his last name anyway -- is on two: Wild Turkey Russell's Reserve bourbon and Russell's Reserve rye. Both are made at the Wild Turkey distillery in Lawrenceburg, Ky.
Since 1954, Russell has stamped more than his name on Wild Turkey, whose flagship 101-proof bourbon is considered one of Kentucky's finest. As master distiller, Russell, now 72, has been involved in all stages of crafting the whiskey: choosing the grain, overseeing the distillation, managing the blends.
