Seattle Mariners history begins in 60 seconds.
Dave Niehaus sits nervously behind the microphone, preparing to narrate the return of baseball to the Northwest. Diego Segui warms up in the Kingdome bullpen.
Niehaus feels a hand clap him on the shoulder, turns and sees The Cowboy, Gene Autry, owner of the visiting California Angels and Niehaus' employer for the previous eight years.
"David, how are you?" Autry says. "Is there a place in the whole Kingdome that a man can get a drink?"
Across the hall from the broadcast booth is a bar, and Niehaus offers to dash over and get Autry a drink. ...
