DANE COUNTY REGIONAL AIRFARES 3RD HIGHEST IN MAINLAND U.S.(NEWS)

Area travelers tired of paying $4 per gallon to fill their gas tanks should not expect to find any financial relief by choosing to fly instead of drive. At least not out of Madison.

With an average of $455, the Dane County Regional Airport has the 3rd highest fares in the mainland United States, according the 2008 first quarter statistics released by the Department of Transportation.

The numbers may not be as bad as they initially seem, however. For one, the rankings refer to only the 100 largest airports in the country. Madison's airport is the 98th largest in the United States.
