FEARS about the future of Batley Town Hall have been swept aside by the Kirklees Council leader.
Coun Robert Light (Con, Birstall and Birkenshaw) rejected claims the historic building might be sold one day.
He stressed it would always belong to the community as he tried to silence concerns that the building would be left empty and derelict.
Coun Light said: "There is absolutely no question of selling off the town hall, and never has been. Anyone who claims that is on the cards is simply wrong.
