The swell in population in some Southeast states combined with the deferring of repairs and an increased need for new building is prompting school construction projects at unprecedented levels, analysts and state officials say.
Southeast states that have witnessed the immense growth of school construction as part of their capital budgets include North Carolina, Florida and Georgia. Education advocates in some states have filed lawsuits
to compel communities to shore up existing facilities or build new ones, analysts noted.
