Servers at the chic W Hotel in downtown Seattle circulated with trays of itsy-bitsy hors d'oeuvres - scallop cerviche, goat cheese mousse, English pea and mint tarts. The bartender dispensed generous glasses of two premium wines from Chateau Ste. Michelle. And 60 guests, mostly women, mingled.
What had the look and feel of a private cocktail party was the latest innovation on the vibrant book scene in Seattle. Among the festive group Wednesday evening was Ethan Canin, best-selling literary author who, wine glass in hand, engaged in animated chat with admiring readers.
