Compared with vaginal deliveries, nonemergency cesarean deliveries are associated with a reduced risk of neonatal complications in cases of breech (buttocks-first) presentation, according to a prospective study conducted in Latin America. (1) The odds of fetal death among cases of breech presentation are reduced by 70-80% with an elective or intrapartum cesarean birth compared with a vaginal birth.
