Real estate is a relatively young profession. It began as a reallocation of functions previously performed by other occupational groups on a part-time basis. It wasn't until the early 1900s that the first real estate boards were formed to address problems with fraud and land speculation. The founding of the National Association of Real Estate Boards (NAREB) in 1907, now the National Association OF REALTORS[R], and the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) in 1933, were important steps toward the growth of real estate as a profession.
