MERSEYSIDE was basking in the hottest day of the year yesterday as people flocked outdoors to enjoy the sunshine.
Crosby weather station recorded temperatures of 28degC (82degF), only narrowly missing out on the UK's top temperature of the year so far, the 30.9C (87degF) recorded in London on Saturday.
Thousands of people basked on Wirral and Sefton beaches as ice cream sellers went into overdrive trying to keep up with demand.
John Doyle, manager of Rich's ice-cream on Lord Street, Southport, which makes and sells its own ice cream, said they hadn't halted production for the past six days.
