BRUSSELS, Belgium, Jul. 28, 2008 (IPS/GIN) -- Relations between the European Union and South Africa have become particularly friendly following South African President Thabo Mbeki's efforts to mediate the internal conflict within Zimbabwe.
Mbeki has been heavily criticized at home and abroad for not taking Robert Mugabe, his Zimbabwean counterpart, to task for committing violence against political opponents. Nevertheless, the European Union has officially declared its full support for Mbeki's mediation efforts.
