Apr. 16--Pushing ahead with its plans in the city, Kmart Corp. has hired a construction company and architect for its second Manhattan outlet in three floors of an East Village office building.

Stephen Pagnani, a Kmart spokesman, said that the discount retailer -- which is rebounding from financial woes -- will open a 160,000 square foot store at 770 Broadway as early as November. He said the lease on the space was recently finalized.

Kmart is building its first Manhattan store in One Penn Plaza. That outlet is set to open in September.
