The Zambian government's insistence that the medical condition of their President Levy Mwanawasa is "stable" after his stroke last month reminds me of the similar report from the South African government that came through to the Star's newsroom in February 1989 that then-president PW Botha was "stable" after suffering a stroke a few days before.
