England looks set to follow the US with the recommendation that some children with high cholesterol be treated with cholesterol-lowering statins.
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) will publish its guidelines for diagnosing and managing familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH) on 27 August. Its contents are not expected to differ from the draft, which suggests giving statins to children over the age of ten, if they have high cholesterol and a family history of early onset heart disease.
