A YOUNG family had their holiday ruined when they were left penniless in Spain after their Barclays' debit card was swallowed by the bank's cash machine.

Andrew Knight and his partner and their two young sons, had to walk everywhere because they couldn't afford petrol for their hire car.

They also had to survive on a dwindling supply of food in their Marbella apartment, and rely on a charity to pay for their taxi from Gatwick airport on their return 11 days after the disaster.
