Unilever has harnessed new technology that will enable it to launch a raft of innovations into the ice cream category, including a fizzy variant of its popular Calippo brand and a product that it claims will bridge the gap between a frappuccino-style drink and an ice cream.
Calippo Fizz is a cola-flavoured ice pop that fizzes on the tongue as it melts. Although the product is still in the development stage, Unilever said it had created a pilot plant that would have the capacity to manufacture the product on a large scale.
The product gets its fizz from new technology that is able to trap C[O.sub.2] in tiny ice particles, a first for the ice cream sector. ...
