Prices still high despite bumper rice harvest on the horizon
Shanghai. August 1. INTERFAX-CHINA - Prices of early Indica rice are lingering at high levels at present despite predictions by the Ministry of Agriculture on July 31 that China's early Indica rice production will reach 34 million tons this year, spiking from last year's output of 31.98 million tons.
The MoA is attributing the bumper harvest to increased acreages. Early Indica rice cultivation reached 126,667 hectares, growing 2 percent year-on-year. Early Indica rice acreages in Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei and Zhejiang provinces rose by 54,000 hectares, 29,333 hectares, 24,667 hectares and 16,000 ...
