When Chip Hanauer fires up the custom turbine engine on board the Boeing U-787 Salute to Seafair unlimited hydroplane this weekend, he'll be preparing to take a ride in a boat laden with new gizmos and devices the average fan can't see or hear.
The hull will appear like most unlimiteds, although there may be a faint scent of coconut when the turbine is fired up. The boat itself isn't new; it ran as the Miss Elam several times in the past as the backup hull for the Ellstrom team.
But as far as the technology goes, there isn't another boat like it.
