It is still early in the year, but Michigan Insurance Commissioner D. Joseph Olson looks like a sure bet to be the recipient of the "Wrong Way Corrigan" Award for 1996 with his proposal to drop mandatory continuing education requirements in his state. (Wrong Way Corrigan, you may remember, is the fellow back in 193 8 who flew his plane to Ireland instead of Californian purpose, most people believe.
The commissioner wants to eliminate Michigan's requirement of 30 hours of continuing education every two years in order to save time and money for his department. The administrative hassle and cost just don't seem to be worth the effort;
