Stark warning from Age Concern over increased power charges.

OLD folk in the Island will die because of spiralling household bills.

The stark warning came from Age Concern chief executive Penny Creighton after the Manx Electricity Authority announced a massive 16.32 per cent increase in tariffs.

An inflation plus two per cent increase in unit charges plus a fuel cost adjustment of 1p a unit was announced on Friday on the same day that a 22 per cent hike in gas prices took effect.

The Age Concern boss is in no doubt as to the effect that soaring fuel and food costs will have on the elderly.
