THE North Yorkshire Moors Railway marks the 40th anniversary of the end of mainline steam with a special event this weekend.
Steam locomotives from what was once the "big four" companies responsible for the railways from 1922 to 1948, together with engines from the British Railways era post-1948, will be in operation hauling passenger trains throughout the weekend.
The line-up includes the "Sir Nigel Gresley" - a streamlined A4 Pacific class and one of only six remaining engines of this type in the world - "The Great Mar-quess" "Repton," a 'Super D,' a 'Black 5' and BR Standard 75029.
