A gardener sparked an emergency by piercing a gas pipe with his pitchfork.
Gary Carr, 38, was helping out in the garden of his sister Helen Park's house when he raced in shouting: "Quick get out, the house is going to blow up".
The smell of gas filled Salters Lane, in Shotton, and houses either side of Helen's home had to be evacuated as firefighters and engineers cordoned off the street.
It emerged that hapless Gary had pierced a gas pipe running under the garden with a pitchfork.
The single mum said: "He comes over all the time and helps out, but I don't think I'll be letting him get his hands on the fork again."
