COUNCILLORS are battling to attract new business to a South Shields estate after the closure of a supermarket.
The closure of Kwik Save, at Parkway, has been described as a 'blow to the community' - now councillors and the public are hoping to have another food store on the site as soon as possible.
Kwik Save at Parkway and the Nook both closed when the nationwide firm collapsed in May last year.
Many stores closed, leaving the firm with 56 outlets which were transferred to a new company called FreshXpress, run by Irish retail entrepreneur Brendan Murtagh.
Many employees of Kwik Save weren't paid, and had to join other creditors to claim money they were owed ...
