FOR thousands of teenagers glued to transistor radios under the bedcovers they were the pioneering young DJs bringing rock 'n' roll to Britain's airwaves for the first time.

Listening to them on Radio Luxembourg became a rite of passage and a welcome alternative to the staid BBC.

The station's signal could fade in and out frustratingly. It finally disappeared for good 16 years ago and those once fresh-faced DJs are now in their 50s and 60s.

But they showed they have lost none of their passion for pop when they were reunited at the weekend to mark the 75th anniversary of Radio Luxembourg's founding in 1933.
