Pacific Gas and Electric Company has been given the go ahead by the California Public Utilities Commission to offer so-called dynamic pricing to its customers.

Using a new type of electric meter, dynamic pricing is supposed to let customers determine how much electricity they are using at any point in the billing cycle instead of waiting until the end of the month, the CPUC says.

Dynamic pricing will give consumers a tool to take advantage of the new meters and reduce their electricity bills, the commission predicts.
