FAMILIES on low incomes will benefit when Leeds Grammar School merges with Leeds Girls High School next summer, according to headmaster Dr Mark Bailey.
More means tested bursaries will be on the way when the schools join in September 2007, giving more families on lower incomes the chance to gain access to private education.
The controversial merger has been plagued by planning and congestion issues.
Officials at Leeds Grammar School want to increase the amount of buildings on the site in Alwoodley by almost 50 per cent to accommodate the girls, who are moving to north Leeds from their current home in Headingley.
