HOUSEHOLDERS were today urged to play their part in helping Leeds become a zero waste city as council chiefs launched a new campaign aimed at stepping up recycling efforts.
The city council says the good intentions of some recyclers are often thwarted because they put their rubbish in the wrong bin.
Research has found that some householders wrongly put items which cannot be recycled in their green bin, which then cannot be collected and mixed with other recyclable waste.
It then has to be left and collected with ordinary black bin waste which is sent to landfill.
