Artefact takes pride of place in exhibition
WHEELS from an Iron Age chariot have been on the move again - more than 2,000 years after being buried in the ground.
The wheels have made the journey from Pontefract Museum to Wakefield to take pride of place in a new conservation exhibition.
The wheels were unearthed during work on the A1(M) near Ferry Fryston in 2003, along with the remains of a chariot and the bones of what is thought to be an Iron Age nobleman.
The find is one of the finest examples of its kind ever discovered and first went on display in Pontefract last year.
