CRIMINALS in West Yorkshire owe almost [pounds sterling]16m in court fines, according to new figures.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that the amount of uncollected court fines across the region has risen slightly from [pounds sterling]15,746,531 in March 2006 to [pounds sterling]15,750,550 in March 2007 - despite a high-profile Government campaign to improve performance.

Only six other police areas had larger outstanding amounts, with London recording the highest outstanding court fines in the country at [pounds sterling]111m. Meanwhile, courts in the West Midlands were owed [pounds sterling]40m, Greater ...
