LAST month, as the results of the Lisbon Treaty referendum were coming in, RT?s Europe correspondent Se?n Whelan and veteran Danish politician Jens-Peter Bonde were discussing the impact of a possible No vote.
Mr Whelan fretted that a No vote would plunge Europe into a period of intensely anti-Irish feeling. He recalled that, at the first EU summit meeting after France had voted No to the European Constitution, the reception for Frances then-president, Jacques Chirac, was very cool. This was an ominous portent of what was in store for Ireland.
In response, Mr Bonde suggested that a No vote might actually prompt a more positive attitude towards Ireland. He claimed that ...
