Accidental death and dismemberment insurance is one of the most frequently purchased benefits in a voluntary employee benefits package. On average, 70 percent of employees purchase coverage, when given the chance.
This isn't surprising. Accidents are the single leading cause of death for Americans under age 35, a time when financial obligations are especially high. Under age 45, accidents are the fourth leading cause of death, following cancer, HIV and heart disease (National Safety Council, Accident Facts, 1995 Edition).
