need a new
strategy to halt
drift to the North
MANAGERS of shopping centres in the Republic were warned yesterday to radically change their strategy if they are to survive after new figures showed a surge in consumers heading to the North to shop.
New research reveals that the Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry has seen a 35pc increase in shoppers from the south.
In Newry, the Buttercrane Shopping Centre has seen a 40pc rise in what is now called "euro tourists".
Euro-wise shoppers from the south are border-hopping to take advantage of the strength of the euro against sterling and lower prices in the North.
