THE city's asthmatics and hay fever sufferers are being warned to brace themselves for a particularly unpleasant summer.
Despite a cold and wet April, a predicted onset of warm periods and showers across the region could lead to rocketing grass pollen levels - spelling misery for those with allergies.
Director of the National Pollen and Aerobiology Unit Professor Jean Emberlin said birch tree pollen had topped record levels last month and, if the grass pollen season followed the same pattern, hay fever sufferers could be in for their worst summer ever.
And to make matters worse, a cloud of yellow dust has spread through the region.
