Hynix billed Monday's career fair as a "ray of hope" for the 978 U.S. employees the company is laying off, but the light shines brightest for the highly educated and mobile few who make up about 15 percent of the Hynix Eugene work force.
Recruiters from nine semiconductor-related plants appeared from as far away as Virginia, North Carolina, Texas and Utah to skim the cream off Hynix's skilled work force.
They were among the 50 firms to set up tables in the Hynix cafeteria and talk with prospects through the afternoon and evening.
