Produce Butter beans - those tender flat green beans sometimes called baby limas - are as about as far away from big old lima beans as can be. Long- awaited by locals, butter beans are the king of August vegetables. Several farms sell them, shelled and unshelled.
For those of you in the western part of Tidewater, you can get your fix from Oliver Farms Produce on Longview Drive in Smithfield. Call, (757) 255-4563 or e-mail Oliverproduce@aol.com to place an order and arrange a pickup time. You can buy them by the quart shelled or by the half-bushel or bushel, unshelled.
