Tensions High Between Trucking Company Owners and Drivers at California Port.(Originated from Press-Telegram, Long Beach, Calif.)

LONG BEACH, Calif.--May 3--Cargo movement at the harbor was up Thursday but still considerably below normal while tension remained high between trucking company owners and thousands of drivers bent on unionization.

In the Port of Long Beach, container movement those not loaded directly onto trains was estimated at between 50 percent and 80 percent of normal, said spokeswoman Yvonne Avila. Just a day earlier, she said, that level was down around 20 percent.

The Port of Los Angeles, meanwhile, was operating at 25 percent to 50 percent of the norm, according to spokesman Albert Fierstine.
