In some ways, Mario Goins doesn't have the typical football background.
The University of Wisconsin redshirt freshman cornerback is a former soccer player and an accomplished golfer who played to a 4 handicap in the spring. The first time he played golf at University Ridge, he shot even par.
Football almost was an afterthought growing up in Copperas Cove, Texas.
"Football, I played it, just to play it," Goins said. "I didn't even play my freshman year of high school, until like halfway through the season and next thing I know, I'm on varsity my sophomore year.
