Already the dominant producer in the prolific Barnett Shale of North Texas, Devon Energy served notice on Wednesday that it is also going to be a contender for that role in the red hot Haynesville Shale play of northwest Louisiana and East Texas.
The company is not releasing any information about its drilling results in the play so far, but Devon President John Richels said during a second-quarter earnings call that Devon currently holds 483,000 net acres of prospective Haynesville leasehold--the largest position of any player in the industry.
