Correction (published Aug. 8): City/Region: A story on Page B1 on Wednesday gave an incorrect title for John Parrott, who is coordinating Lane County's West Nile virus monitoring program. He is a volunteer Master Gardener.
Lane County has begun its annual testing for West Nile virus, the source of a flulike illness that has been spreading across the country.
Four birds infected with West Nile were found in the county last year. The virus has been in the county at least since 2006, when the first infected bird was found, but no human cases of the illness have been reported.
