Forget the presidential campaign; ignore the ongoing federal budget battle. Washington is briefly buzzing with the news that New Republic Editor Andrew Sullivan has chosen to leave the prestigious liberal weekly.
Both the Washington Times and Washington Post have reported that Sullivan, 32, has been HIV-positive for three years. He revealed this fact to his fellow workers at a staff meeting during which he broke the news of his resignation. But readers of the Post's account were startled by the virulence of a remark from New Republic Literary Editor Leon Wieseltier.
