While officials from Richwood and Clute agree the sewer line that connects both cities to a sewage treatment plant south of the Highway 288-B overpass must be replaced, they differ on how to split the bill.
The damaged portion of the sewer line runs through Clute but affects the neighboring city, Clute City Manager Kyle McCain said. He said it s leaking and could collapse at any moment. Engineers hired by Clute earlier this year found the total cost to replace the sewer line is about $4.2 million.
Even if a one-foot section of it collapses, it blocks the pipe and sewage doesn t have anywhere to go, McCain said.
