A DISUSED church that used to serve Chickenley could be turned into homes.
St Mary's Church, on Wakefield Road, Gawthorpe, has been empty since 2003.
Now an application to turn the church into 16 apartments and demolish the adjoining church hall to make way for six additional dwellings has been submitted to Wakefield Council. The plan has been backed by the Church of England.
The decision to sell St Mary's, which falls within the Ossett and Gawthorpe parish of the Rev Paul Maybury, was made by the church's council for the parish in 2003.
