'Having been in a staffing role myself at police headquarters, Edinburgh, throughout G8, I was well placed to appreciate the full part played by our officers,' said Mr Common.
For Lothian and Borders Police G8 started on July 2 with the largest gathering of protestors ever seen in Scotland - 225,000 people visiting Edinburgh to take part in the 'Make Poverty History' march. The event was regarded as an outstanding success and members of the public were quick to praise the police for their good humour and assistance.
On Monday, July 4, an entirely different type of protest was seen as anarchist groups from a variety of countries descended on Edinburgh.
