CHORLEY councillor Shaun Smith insists his political career is far from over after being cleared of a racially aggravated assault against a taxi marshal.
The high profile 37-year-old, who represents Wheelton and Withnell wards, claims the case would never have got as far as it did but for who he is.
Coun Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of racially aggravated assault, racial harassment and assault by beating when he appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court on Monday.
However he was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months following the incident at Manchester Airport in June 2006, which a judge branded 'shameful'.
