Chorley councillor Shaun Smith has had his suspension from the Conservative party lifted after a court cleared him of a racially aggravated assault against a taxi marshal.
Earlier this month the high profile politician for Wheelton and Withnell wards pleaded not guilty to charges of racially aggravated assault, racial harassment and assault by beating when he appeared at Minshull Street Crown Court.
The allegations related to an incident at Manchester Airport in June 2006 and he was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months.
