RECORD crowds of around ten thousand punters saw Melalchrist prove himself the best of the speedsters in the feature sprint handicap on Beverley's Ladies Day.
No fewer than five of the nine runners in the field had previously tasted success over the minimum five furlongs at the Westwood track.
But it was the Kevin Ryan trained runner who claimed the spoils on this occasion under Neil Callan, holding off Efistorm and Welcome Approach, who filled the minor places.
The winner has now finished in the first two in each of his last three starts on the Westwood.
