IF you needed proof that consumers are suffering financial pressure, here it is - the number of car boot sales has risen sharply. Cash-strapped Britons are thinking twice about taking unwanted items to the charity shop or council tip, looking instead to claw back some value by selling them.
Chris Eley runs the website carbootjunction.com, which lists regular car boot sales by region and offers advice to sellers. He says there has been a 20 per cent increase in the number of sales compared with last year. This, he believes, is largely due to the effects of the credit crunch.
